Michael Kozlowski was born on August 6, 1961 in USSR 1980 - Master Sporta: CCCP" (Kazakhstan), former amateur boxer, over 120 fights. 1991 - University Degree in Sports Science Began Coaching Career - 1985 in Moscow (Kolomna)

1983 Aktubinsk, Kazakhstan, USSR I fought my 149th and last amateur bout in the quaterfinals of the Kazakhstan National Championships. They stopped the fight in the 2nd round, because of a cut over my right eye. While being sitched up in the hospital, I realized that I would never becomce a Soviet Union Champion, never go to the World Championship or to the Olympic Games. With no goal in mind, there was no point in continuing to train. I was always an excellent student in school. In 1984, I decided to go to Leningrad (St. Petersburg) to try to get into the Academy of Cinema to be a movie director. I realized during the entrance exams that, being only 22 years old, I was too young for this. Next day, I left for Moscow. Not just anyone could go to Moscow in the 1980's. You had to be a citizen of Moscow. The city was heavily pstrolled by the police. They would check your passport. If you did not have a special stamp, they would put you in jail. Furthermore, withhout this stamp, no one would hire you. I lived on bread and water, because I couldn't get a job. In 1985 my friend, the former Soviet Union Champion, Gennadiy Kurgin helped me find a job coaching in The Olympic Boxing School of Moscow. At the same time, I began studying to get my masters degree in coaching. In Russia, you cannot coach minors unless you have masters degree. And so began my long career as a coach, as I stood before a line of 20 boys ranging from 12 to 15 years old, all dreaming of being Olympic champions

Sergey Grigoriev (my future Russian national champion) and Andrey Nosov (my first junior olympic champion) were in this line-up. I was surrounded by the best coaches in world. They all had Olympic, world, or European champions. Working side by side with coaches like Andrey Chervonenko and Viktor Bistrov who built amateur boxing in Cuba, was the best coaching school for me. I won't list all of my champions, only the first of any category.
