Many boxing experts, including Teddy Atlas, were confident that Yuri Foreman would beat Miguel Cotto at Yankee Stadium. But that did not happen. Miguel Cotto did a great job of destroying Foreman, and showed the boxing world that his picture will soon be in The Boxing Hall of Fame. I would like to congratulate the new World Champion Miguel Cotto, and his coach Emanuel Steward! “What happened to Yuri Foreman?” Many journalists and friends have asked me this question since the fight happened. The answer is very simple. I, Michael Kozlowski, carefully built Yuri Foreman from a cowardly boy into a fighter in the ring.

A few minutes ago I drank one glass of carrot and apple juice! I was very happy to drink this juice because it was my first portion of food after my annual ten days and eleven nights of fasting. Ten days and eleven nights with no eating and drinking only distilled water are finally over!
It was not easy. If I got up from my bed too quickly I felt a little dizzy on some mornings. I had to work every day at my job to pay my bills and then go to the boxing gym to train my fighters at night.

On March 25th, 2010, history was made in Madison Square Garden. In the boxing Mecca of the World, Shemuel Pagan defeated Carlos Teron to win his fifth New York Daily News Golden Gloves Championship. Pagan became the second boxer in the history of the prestigious tournament to win five Championships. The famous tournament is 83 years old, and the only other boxer to win the Golden Gloves five times was the great Mark Breland. Breland was the Olympic Champion of 1984 and later the Professional Welterweight Champion of the World.

Many friends and journalists who I see in Gleason’s Gym often ask me for my opinion about the upcoming fight between Miguel Cotto and my former boxer, Yuri Foreman. Everybody is surprised when I say that it will be an easy fight for Yuri unless Cotto makes the right changes to his team. At this point, Cotto needs a coach who understands the finer points of the Russian style of boxing.
Let’s ask ourselves, “Who is Yuri Foreman?” Coach Michael Kozlowski made him into a boxing machine much like the Russian gun engineer, Mikhail Kalashnikov, who invented the “AK 47” - a gun that works in anyone’s hands. Similarly, Russian coach Michael (Mikhail) Kozlowski developed Yuri Foreman’s boxing style to operate the same way no matter which coach works his corner - from the great Emanuel Steward to a new coach stepping into the ring for the first time. Foreman’s style will be enough to beat a faded Cotto…

December 24, 2009. Gleason’s Gym closed at 4pm on Christmas Eve, so I came early to train my heavy weight prospect (born in Poland) Kasper Czajkowski for the upcoming New York Golden Gloves. As I entered the gym, Yuri Foreman was sitting with his wife in one of the four boxing rings at Gleason’s. I put my coat in my locker and then approached Foreman for the first time in many years.
Eventhough Foreman was surprised that I would speak to him after the incident where he reported me to the FBI, he happily accepted my congratulations for his recent victory over Daniel Santos for the WBA title. I then confronted him about his quote in the New York Times regarding my decision to leave my family. I asked him why he failed to mention that he had been arrested in Israel at this time and that it was me who kept him from going to prison by giving him refuge in the United States. Foreman basically said that it was all such a long time ago it didn’t matter anymore.

If you come to a new country with the ambition of becoming a world level professional boxing coach competing with coaches who are originally from here, you have to always be in good shape. You have no time to be sick, especially in America where medical insurance is so expensive...
